The History of Web Design Explored
The first website in the history of web design was published by Tim Berners, which was in 1991 to be exact. Lee was the first to merge Internet communication with hypertext. The internet had already been here for decades and was used for carrying emails. The hypertext too had also been around for decades then. Websites were written in a markup language called HTML and the early versions of HTML were very basic as the history of web design reflects. It only gave the website's a very basic structure and the ability to link using hypertext, which was a new idea at that time as it allowed the users to jump to different pages.
With the progression of web and web design, the languages became more complex as well as flexible. It allowed the designers to add other elements like images and tables. With the introduction of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), the table-based layout soon became outdated. Server-side scripting and design standards like W3C further changed and improved the way the Web design was made. With ever-evolving programs and database integration technologies there was no stopping or limitations to how web designs were made or thought of.
Tens of thousands of web design companies have been established around the world ever since, as the history of web design reveals. The ever growing demand for such work and the shift of almost every business on web, it is no surprise to see more and more web design companies surfacing the developing world, setting up offices in countries such as India, Romania, and Russia. The idea is to take benefit of the relatively lower labor rates found in these countries.
History of web design is unthinkable without the contribution of a person, Jakob Nielsen, who is PhD in computer science. He is very well known among web designers and web developers. He has been writing for a column on web usability, which has been published on web ever since 1995 and has than 200,000 readers. He is called “the king of usability” and “the guru of web page usability”.
The World Wide Web continues to expand, as the number of web users as well as year millions of web sites added every year. As per the technological growth and the requirements of the Internet users, the key styles and techniques of web designing keep changing. Usability creativity and adequacy are the factors behind a successful web design. History of web design is a history of the 21st century actually. Therefore each of us has a distinct chance to contribute in its further development.
