In Memoriam

Jeff Johnson, the director of the New Buildings Institute and visionary leader who created Advanced Buildings, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 in a mountain bike accident. Jeff's life work in building performance had a profound impact on international and regional codes and standards, human performance, and energy efficiency. His loss will be felt throughout the energy efficiency community.

We extend our sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues and to the New Buildings Institute. We encourage you to visit the memorial page on the New Buildings Institute web site, where you can express your thoughts.

Jeff's work in creating Advanced Buildings was marked by his ability to create dynamic relationships, tackle practical issues, and influence policy. Everyone who worked with him on Advanced Buildings was inspired to create a better built environment that protects our environment and inspires human performance.

At the end of Jeff's presentation on Integrating High Performance, he left his audience with these words: "Your challenge is to integrate technology in a way that creates magical spaces, spaces that enhance our community, our environment and advance the human condition."
